The Akane's Swimming Lessons - Principal Kuno Arc is the 30th story arc covered in the Ranma ½ manga, spanning two chapters. This arc was included in volume 14 of the Weekly Shōnen Sunday tankōbon and volume 12 of the Viz Media tankōbon.
Plot Summary[]
One afternoon Akane is staring into the swimming pool at Furinkan High thinking about how she has never learned to swim. The Principal arrives and thinks Akane is trying to kill herself. When he discovers she can not swim he decides that he won't let her move up a grade unless she learns[1].
The Principal stays up all night sewing a swan training costume to help Akane learn how to swim, but it almost causes her to drown. The mermaid costume works just as well too. Akane is ready to call it quits when all her friends from school rally behind her and give her the encouragement she needs to continue on. However, the Principal and the students give up once they see Akane almost drown even with a lifebuoy[2].

Changes in anime[]
- Akane trains for a swimming tournament, not a school exam.
- Neither Ukyo nor Kuno appeared in the manga version of this story. And so the shark never wakes up.
- Ranma's curse is hidden from the students for much longer than in the manga, which is why Ranma hides in various forms while he is a girl.
- Akane actually learns to swim... kind of, by Wearing four lifebuoys she actually wins the tournament.
Characters Introduced[]
- No characters debuted in this arc.
