The Honeymoon Period (いつわりの夫婦, Itsuwari no fufu?) is the 197th chapter of the Ranma ½ manga and the fourth chapter of the Sauce of Ten Years Arc.
Summary[]
Ranma and Akane must now try to live as newlyweds to dissuade Ukyo.
Plot Overview[]
Lunch starts in Furinkan High School and Ranma is starving. Akane shows up holding two lunch boxes and asks Ranma to join her in an attempt to convince Ukyo and other students of their marriage. When Ranma is told that Akane made the lunch herself, he tries running away, but is hit by a chair. He goes through with the plan when Akane holds his shirt and implicates the possibility of violence if he does not comply.
Akane offers Ranma food to fool Ukyo.
Reluctantly he takes a bite out of Akane's hands, but is unable to say anything bad despite the awful taste. On the other side of the classroom Ukyo watched the couple, smugly thinking how easily she can see through their act. The rest of the class, however, are mesmerized and wonder what happened between them. Ukyo plans her next move.
When they return home, Ukyo fills a box with her okonomiyaki things and buries it under the Tendo Dojo's front yard. She sees this as a battle between her and Akane and is determined to win. The dinner time arrives and they are both on the offensive, with each offering food to their helpless fiancé. Nabiki then comes with a plan that was sure to convince Ukyo of their marriage. She tweeks Akane's door sign to read "Akane and Ranma" and explains to the couple that they must sleep in the same room to appear married. They both object and begin arguing, but when Ukyo comes to them Ranma holds Akane and rushes into the room. Ukyo is still unconvinced and asks Nabiki whether or not it's all an act. Nabiki is willing to give information for a 1000 yen.
Ranma and Akane enter Akane's room to fool Ukyo.
In the room, Ranma is fiddling with the window wanting to sleep on the roof so as to not cause any trouble. They soon start arguing again until Nabiki shows up by the window. She offers them a bucket of water for 500 yen. They figure that if Ranma is a girl, there shouldn't be a problem sleeping together. But before he can splash himself, they see an extra pair of eyes peeking over the window belonging to Ukyo. She emerges and realizes that they aren't actually married, prompting Ranma to drink the bucket of water instead to fool her.
With Nabiki and Ukyo temporarily out of the picture, Akane and Ranma sit quietly in the room not knowing what to do. Just on the other side of the doorway, Naibiki, Ukyo, Genma and Soun are curled up and listening carefully until they are chased away by the couple. They decide that the best thing to do is to sleep. Ranma takes a blanket and settles on the floor, but remains restless.
By 3 A.M. Ranma is still unable to sleep. He gets up and walks to Akane's bed, wondering how she is able to sleep when he can't. But he gets too close, and Akane's arms suddenly grabs him and holds him tight thinking him to be P-chan. He carefully untangles himself from her embrace and slaps his reddened face. He realizes that this cannot last much longer and he must talk to Ukyo.
Akane dreams that P-chan is back while hugging Ranma.
Next morning, he goes to look for Ukyo. When he finds her, she is bowing down to him and offers him breakfast. Ranma tries to get some words out but Ukyo is unwilling to listen. She turns to him with tears in her eyes and tells him that she threw away her okonomiyaki future for him. At this point Ranma comes up with a plan to get out this situation and he promises to look after Ukyo. Unknown to them, Akane was standing behind them. He soon receives a beating.
