Let's Go to the Mushroom Temple (キノコ寺へ行こう, Kinoko Dera e Ikō?) is the 127th episode of Ranma ½ Nettohen, and the 145th episode of the 1989 Ranma ½ anime overall.
Summary[]
When a visit to a wilderness temple famed for its mushroom dishes ends up with Ranma and Akane eating Mushrooms of Love, Ryoga and Kuno must struggle to get the antidote to them before the effects become permanent - even as Mousse tries to ensure they succumb to its effects
Plot Overview[]
An advertisement for the Mushroom Temple convinces Genma to take Soun, their children, along with Ryoga, Mousse, and Kuno, to visit so they can enjoy a free mushroom feast and meditation exercises.
The group arrives at the temple.
Soun asks two old men for directions. One of them gave him directions, but as they walk away, they express displeasure for them, which confuses Kuno. Once they arrive, they are greeted by the monk in charge of the temple, who says that some of the mushrooms growing around it are good, while others are not. He announces that an expert will join them the next day and advises them not to eat mushrooms that have not been inspected.
Genma tries to eat a mushroom uncontrollably, and Ranma violently stops him. Later, everyone gets distracted during their meditation exercises, resulting in them being beaten by the monk.
That evening, while Ranma is training, Akane approaches him and wants to take advantage of the beautiful night to look at the stars. He doesn't think it's a great sight, but they're interrupted by Kuno, who wants to look at the stars with Akane, even though she doesn't want to. Ranma, annoyed, tells them to go talk elsewhere, but Mousse arrives, not wanting Kuno to get between Ranma and Akane (so he can have a better chance with Shampoo).
Eventually, a fight breaks out between Kuno and Mousse, and Ryoga intervenes against Mousse, saying he shouldn't interfere in Akane's private life. Eventually, the matter seems to be resolved, and the next morning, the visitors clean the temple and the expert arrives.
The group eats lunch, eating the mushrooms the expert has inspected. However, he feels ill from eating a poisonous mushroom. The monk notes that even a great expert can make mistakes and advises them to stop eating. A moment later, however, everyone feels ill except him, Akane, and Ranma. Akane wants to call a doctor, but the reverend says that all that's needed is for the poisoned people to eat or smell a piece of a miracle mushroom that grows at the top of the mountain, and the two rush off with the elder warning them that they must return before sunset if they want to save the rest of the group.
The Mushrooms of Love.
The expert recovers shortly afterward, as his body is accustomed to the poisons, and realizing that the others might die, he immediately uses pieces of the miracle mushroom in his possession to cure them. It seems that everything has ended well and that Ranma and Akane are on a pointless journey, but the expert realizes that they have eaten mushrooms of love. Their power causes a man and a woman who eat them together to fall in love with each other. Genma and Soun are thrilled, but Ryoga and Kuno are much less happy with the news, and they asks the expert if it is possible to reverse the mushrooms' effects. He replies that the miracle mushroom can do so, but that if they don't eat it before evening, they will be in love for life.
Ryoga and Kuno rush toward the mountain, tailed by Mousse, who wants Ranma to spend his entire life with Akane so he can have Shampoo. Kuno manages to cut the ropes of the bridge Mousse is crossing, but Mousse uses a chain to grab his ankle, and Ryoga relents and helps him, allowing Mousse to climb the chain.
The three catch up with Ranma and Akane, who are already starting to take effect from the love mushrooms. Seeing them so agitated, they assume the others are still sick and continue on, hand in hand, making it clear to the three that their love is progressing.
Mousse is thrilled, and Kuno and Ryoga angrily beat him up, losing sight of Ranma and Akane. The two then ask an elderly couple for directions to the shrine that houses the miracle mushroom. The two help them, and the camera pans to a clump of mushrooms near their home, implying that the two old people have eaten the love mushrooms (a fact also hinted at by their tender manner). Ranma and Akane arrive at the miracle mushroom and are so in love that he asks for her hand in marriage and she gives it to him.
Mousse then arrives at the temple and tells them that the others are fine and so they shouldn't rush, but he's knocked out by Ryoga, who tells them they've been poisoned. Ranma replies that they're fine, but Kuno interrupts Ryoga's calm explanation, yelling at Ranma to eat the mushroom. Confused, the two lovers run away, not understanding why the three are reasoning this way and believing that the others might still need the antidote.
Ryoga tries to convince them again, but Mousse returns the favor, knocking him out. After stealing the mushroom pieces from Ranma and Akane, he throws them into the river below. The two try to retrieve them and fall into the ravine. Akane grabs a branch, and Ranma asks her to let him fall, as the branch can support her weight and Ryoga will surely come looking for her. The girl, however, refuses, ready to die with him. The branch breaks, but fortunately, instead of falling into the river, the two fall onto the raft of the old man they had met earlier.
The two then return to the temple where they are greeted with celebration. However, Nabiki (after being paid) reveals that they are so in love because of the mushroom. Not believing this, the two eat the miracle mushroom to prove it to her. They return to normal and immediately resume their usual bickering.

Trivia[]
- This is the only time Ranma and the Tendos have taken Ranma's rivals along on a trip instead of Ranma's fiancees.
- Mousse is the only one who isn't filmed when he collapses from the poisoning.
- The fact that the mushroom expert overcame the poison without treatment because his body is accustomed to it is realistic, as the human body can develop immunity to toxins through gradual exposure.
- It is interesting to note that, contrary to usual, during the episode all the characters risk their lives:
- With the sole exception of Ranma and Akane, everyone present except the monk is poisoned.
- Mousse, Kuno, Ranma and Akane are in danger of falling off a cliff.
- So Mousse is the only one to risk his life twice. Kuno actually tries to kill him.
